M Carp

I finally got pics and text posting figured out (I think).

Shown below is the 135 I purchased in April of this year. I got lucky on this tractor - the seller said it ran but, someone stole the carb off of it. I studied the pictures of it very carefully noticing the sheet metal was in excellent shape. Seller said it sat inside for many years. Before making the nearly 500 mile round trip to pick it up we settled on a price I thought was low enough to justify a complete restoration.

To hear it run the next day, I borrowed the carb from my TO35 and the plastic gas tank from my portable generator (the inside of the 135's gas tank was nasty). It started right up.

The first thing I did was change the engine oil and filter then mounted my 6' grooming mower to it and headed out to one of our pastures with the generator gas tank strapped to the hood.

I still cannot believe how good it runs and how lucky I got. The power steering and 3pt work great, and it doesn't smoke. The oil level hasn't dropped in 35 hours of use. I should mention the tractor only had 1,468 hrs on it. I got the gas tank cleaned out and in the process of installing new tires. It was worth the trip!

P.S. I deal with the (multi-power) tranny leak next year -

tractor looks great,
I believe if it were mine, such a nice tractor needs to be treated to a front grill guard, for front end protection.

I would have it against a small tree or fence or something denting the front grill.

also that front bumper would give you a hitch point on the front, sometimes they can come in handy.

again good find.

you were a lucky boy, that carb being off might have scared me off.

I was very lucky, Max. I almost walked away from it shortly after I arrived. Seller knew he'd get it sold; only listed for one day and he wouldn't go any lower. I wouldn't have either!

It did come with a grill guard but, I thought it was ugly. It looked kind of homemade but I don't think it was.
I would like to put the OEM front weight bracket on it. I looks incomplete without it plus, as you say, the grill and lower pan is quite exposed.

(quoted from post at 16:48:44 07/26/17) Seldom do you see a 50 year old tractor without the fenders mangled!

Good story, excellent tractor, now are you going to keep us in suspense or can you tell us what you paid for it?

Wow what a deal!!!

Real nice looking Massey

Got the same thing about 6 years ago but I paid too much ($4,500) on the plus side a things it had a complete re build from the guy I bought it from ... including hydraulic pump. So I have not put a penny into it in 6 years other than oil changes.... yes still going on the same set a points for 6 years !!

Thanks Dale and 9N. I probably have about 2,500 in it now with new rear tires, paint, sand, and a few misc. parts. So the cost is going up and I still need front tires, a seat (also borrowed from the TO35) and fix the tranny leak. So, its not a perfect tractor but it could have been worse. I have to be careful on expenses because my wife doesn't fully appreciate my hobby.

An old tractor, purchased for a hobby, is a bit like a horse purchased for the same reason.

Both provide enjoyment, tractor drinks fuel instead of eating hay, otherwise actually quite similar. You can ride it, pull things with it...the list could go on and on LOL. That being said, does your wife want a horse? Just sayin....sometimes all works out if you get creative!
