Massey Ferguson 1040 stuck motor

Hi folks,

I have a mid 80's Massey Ferguson 1040 that sat for several years. I finally got around to having a local tractor mechanic trailer it to his shop to take a close look at it. Prior to sitting for several years it was running. Apparently, in spite of having a capped exhaust it still took on a lot of water over the years, so much so that the motor is stuck. The mechanic, who I trust is saying that that there are few after market parts for that particular year and model and that I might be best taking the loss. Anyone here have any other suggestions before I take the hit for what could potentially be a $6k - $8k tractor with loader? Thanks.

The 1040 has the dreaded Toyosha diesel engine that's about impossible to get parts for. You could have it taken apart to see what is stuck, and hope you can just enough parts to fix it. You could pull the injectors, and put something in the cylinders (like 50/50 mix of atf, and acetone), let it soak, and it may unstuck it after it sits for awhile (could be a day, could be months, could be never). Since parts for it are scarce I don't think I would keep it if it even if it could can run again.
 
Good chance it is stuck due to sitting a long time and not real likely to be much water in it but if you can pull the injectors and do a wick test to make sure there is no water in the cylinders and then fill them wit ha mix or ATF and turpentine 50/50 good chance it will free up and then maybe have a good tractor. I had an A/C XT190 that was locked up and I did that and it freed up in just a few days. I did make a mistake and did not take the injectors out when I tried to spin it over and did not have them locked in place and 2 injectors flew about 30 feet but you need them out to spin it over any how so it does not hyd lock on you. Short fast taps on the start will be the best way to try spinning it over
