Massey 35 Drawbar

Have a 35 Massey. Bolts holes in rear housing that hold up the drawbar plate are stripped. Any ideas?

Whatever you do don't drill the holes any deeper or you may break through into the oil reservoir. I fixed one by getting a bottoming tap and tapping the holes as deep as possible then get a longer bolt and kept grinding it shorter until it would tighten against the bracket. The threads are probably only stripped part way in because they got loose.

Unified Coarse. UNC is the most commonly used thread on general-purpose fasteners. Coarse threads are deeper than fine threads and are easier to assemble without cross threading. UNC threads are normally easier to remove when corroded, owing to their sloppy fit.

UNF thread has a larger minor diameter than UNC thread, which
gives UNF fasteners slightly higher load-carrying (in shear) and better torque locking capabilities than UNC fasteners of the same material and outside diameter. The fine threads have tighter manufacturing tolerances than UNC threads, and the smaller lead angle allows for finer tension adjustment. UNF
threads are frequently used in cases where thread engagement is minimized due to thinner wall thickness.

As long as your tap is sharp it'll cut just fine. Don't think i have ever seen any unf helicoil kits though. Might be stuck with unc.

May I ask, which type of hitch attachment do you have?

It's something like picture 1. It uses the 4 bolts holes in the flat plate and bolts to the bottom of rear axle.

i think I have a game plan, gonna try and tap it to 3/4 NCF. Then I may have a plate built up around the pto, and weld it to the drawbar for a little extra support . Thanks for all the help

My mistake, I thought you meant the bolts up into the bottom of the housing. I think your plan will work. Bolts must have got loose.

no you wasn't mistaking. It is the bolts in the bottom of the housing. But I thought I may add the plate around the pto for extra strength

Adding the plate that uses the 4 bolt holes around the pto will help. This Sunday I'll get a picture of the drawbar setup on my brothers 135, it would take a lot to break the bolts, or pull the threads on that one.
