What is the purpose of the notched bracket on this top link?

It acted as the down stop for the hydraulics when used on a 9N and the longer upper notch was the transport position,
all for a sickle mower.

Thanks Roger, I searched the internet for info on this link and couldn't find anything on it. It was on my recently purchased 135. Mike

not the best picture, but it shows a loop around the top arm.
the loop connected to a chain connected to the mower frame, was adjustable to the depth you wanted the mower.

was used as was said on 9n mowers.

Hi, yes the rack is to control the drop depth for primarily a
cutterbar mower. However this rack was not originally fitted to this
top link. The original Ferguson top link constisted of two flat bars
of approximately 2" x 1/2" bolted together with various matching
holes to give length adjustment. The rack was mounted close to the
tractor end to give a maximum range. Because this is an adjustable MF
type top link the rack has been mounted on the barrel more or less in
the centre of it. I would suggest that you do not use this for
anything heavier than the mower as there will be a string tendency to
bend the top link rendering it useless as far as adjustment is
concerned. This top link is designed for push and pull only.

Thanks Max and David. I probably will never use it for what it was for but, I went ahead and blasted and painted it because ... well ... it was rusty and needed painted!

Many implements, not only for mower, cannot remember all now but spike tooth harrow was one and also disk harrow.

I don't think that's original equipment on a 'screw adjust' top link! In my 'grey Fergie' days the top link which came as part of
both the grey ferg semi-mounted seed drill and the semi-mounted discs had notched brackets like that for depth control. In your
case, I guess someone made up a 'hybrid' for some specific purpose we can only guess at. As David says, don't hang much weight on
that type of top link, you'll bend it!
