MF-135 Gas Engine Tractor cranks over but doesn't start.
I have
- cleaned zenith carb and gas is getting to the carb
- cleaned fuel bowl and it is active
- cleaned out tank with new gas
- verified spark from coil wire going into center hole of distributor cap.
- verified air breather, hose, & choke

Questions:
- Does this tractor have a fuel pump that I might have missed?
- Is there supposed to be spark/fire from cables coming out of the distributor cap hole #1, #2, etc... when cranking engine?

Tractor acts as if it wants to start, but doesn't quite make it.

Appreciate any feedback or tips.

Thanks,
Danny D.

On a gasser it should be gravity feed (no pump). There shouldn't be no sparks coming out of the plug wires coming out of the distributor. If the distributor cap, and plug wires are old replace them.

If you mean should there be spark coming out of the end of the plug wire with a tester or test plug in the wire then yes. Make sure you ground the body of the test plug or tester clip on the engine somewhere or it wont complete the circuit and spark. Make sure the spark you get is a nice blue color and not yellow and weak looking.
If you mean spark coming out of the side of the wire then no, something is wrong there. Keep in mind though that spark needs to go somewhere. If you are just holding the wire with nothing in the end then the spark can jump through the wire and into your hand kind of thing.

I had the same problem with my 135. It tried to start but only would fire a couple of times. I thought it might have jumped time somehow so I hooked a inductive timing light to #1.
The timing light would flash a couple of times, then nothing. Turned out to be a bad condenser. I never expected a bad condenser because I just installed new (china kit) points and condenser. I put the old condenser back in and it fired right up!
