Happy Camper 135

My buddy took my 135 to my farm in WV two weeks ago. We couldn't get the mower on the trailer, but I did get the heavy 8' back blade on. Last year my cousin took his L series Bota with what he called a "Real Heavy Grader Box" up to grade our washed out drives. His "Real Heavy Box" just floated over the high spots, too much work for too small of a tractor. I put the blade on the first hole to angle it a little, and hooked it about 6-8 inches into the side of the drive. Two passes and it pulled enough fresh shale out to level the drive., It was sooo nice not to bottom out in my 4X4 Dodge just getting up the hill. I bought a 70's Woods 6' bush hog to try and keep my field down. When my buddy had the tractor he said they used a 6 footer on it and it pulled it easy. We went over to his farm after dropping my tractor off. Turned out his bush hog was a five footer much smaller and lighter than mine. I suspect the 135 will handle the 6 footer fine. While at his place he was showing me all the barns and said he wanted to clean them out. I saw a big 6-8 inch wide pulley sitting about a foot off the ground. Looked like the kind that went on a drive unit for big flat belts. Got closer and it was hooked to a trans sitting in an old truck frame. Dug deeper and I saw a firewall, dug deeper, on the other side of the firewall was an old 4 cylinder engine. I think we found the drive unit to their old saw mill. He said it was driven by an old Model T truck engine. It was dark and I could barely see, it didn't look like a T engine, but we will go back. He wants to get rid of it. I think it would be cool to restore it as is, as a drive unit, Joe.

Thanks PT, I'll have to shoot some video of cleaning up the field. My neighbors Dad used to cut hay off the field and kept it down. When he passed his son asked if he could keep cutting it, but never followed through. Now I have to clear back 50-60 yards of Pines encroaching on both sides of the field. The older I get the less I like change. I want to look across my field and have the same view I did as a kid, Joe.

Got my bush hog up to the mountains. It worked great with the 8' heavy grader blade, go all the wash out on my drive cleaned and leveled. Pulling the 6' hog I had a bit of trouble finding the "sweet spot" on the 3 point. I made 2 or 3 passes and it stayed perfect, so I started watching where I was going. Then I heard grinding and looked around and it had raised up to the point the drive shaft was rubbing on the front of the bush hog deck. Doodled with it some more and seemed to get it sweet again. It has been running a little rich, and when it hit real thick grass, it sounded like the governor was starting to kick in and it would pop a couple times, through the carb, and then smooth out. In areas where the grass had been cut in the past couple years it would cruise in 3rd low range. If I got into the waist to shoulder high stuff I had to drop down into 2nd Low. Trying to run in 1st hi was just way too fast. I think if I can get it tuned better it will definitely cut better. Plus the grass is only 6 inches high now, I won't be trying to bull through the high stuff. Still a happy camper, Joe.

Mines a Z145, but it's not running right yet. Still has some carb issues. I'm going to a big equipment auction tomorrow and they have a 165 diesel with 4500 hours on it. I really don't have the money, but, I've seen nice stuff go for low prices at this sale because there is so much stuff there, Joe.

The 165 is a good tractor, don't overlook a MF 150 (or a MF50) its like a 165 but with a Perkins AD3.152.

My brothers 1965 150 with the AD3.152.
