Hey guys got a question. Had the head on a continental engine completely rebuilt. Valves, springs, guides etc. Was taping the head for paint this morning and noticed the new exhaust valves don't have the hole in them for the pin type lash cap. In fact if i put the caps on the intake valves and lay a stright edge across the top the new stems on the exhaust valves are tall enough to line up with the top of the caps on the intake valves. Are the replacements not meant to have caps anymore?

I would check with whoever rebuilt your cylinder head to see if they are required (do you have a invoice with the part number for the exhaust valves). Usually the valves are softer than the rocker arm, and without the caps the rockers will mushroom the top of the valve.

The valves were part of the overhaul kit YT sells for his head. The color of the valves look like the exhaust valve is stainless honestly. The stems are tall like no cap is required but not sure.
http://www.yesterdaystractors.com/Massey-Ferguson-135_Engine-Valve-Overhaul-Kit_VOKM145.html is the kit but they make no mention of anything special..

You may want to call YT tomorrow, and ask them about that, if they are not sure I'd ask them who made the valves so I could contact who made them. If the valves are stainless they should use lash caps, the rocker arms will chew up the tops of stainless valves.

That thought did cross my mind. Will see what the YT guys say this morning. Most likely that will be my path here.

Ok talked to the guys at YT and they said the new replacement valves are a hardened steel and you no longer need the lash caps. Still need them for the intake side but not for exhaust anymore. Will give it a rip and see what happens..
