running 275 with lift cover removed (Dieseltech)

ok i am finally getting around to working on my 275 with weak aux hyds. about 1300psi while cold and reved up real good. i want to check for a busted line once i get the lift cover removed. i know Dieseltech said he found his was busted while running tractor with lift cover removed. my question is does the pump constantly pump and circulate or do i have to put the spool assembly back on and work the outlets to find the leak?

How I found the split line on the 275 I had in was with a pressure gauge on the front side plate fitting, both spool valve and lift cover assemblies were off. Just cranking with the starter and fuel stop out I could see the leak inside..

You will need the valves on or you will not be able to load the system to find the leak unless you are putting a flowmeter straight onto the pump outlet, you
also need to hold the linkage pump control valve in to down position also. We used to use a top cover that had been sawn in half for doing this.

With the pressure gauge on the front side plate outlet loads the pump just fine, valves do not have to be in place. If the internal steel line is split like mine was just cranking the engine alone will show the leak..
