Is this a Massey Harris

On the far side is a flat belt pulley, it has a Perkins L4 engine. But no other identifying marks where I have had the chance to look.
What do you think?

I believe it definitely is a Massey Harris. A number of that shaped Massey tractors arrived in Australia and New Zealand designated 744PD. I think the PD was Perkins Diesel. I am not sure of age but they seemed to follow the 101 Junior and Senior models of the 1940s. Whether there were any other models in between I don't know.

That's a half breed.... has a chopped up Massey 44 grille, but the engine tub is not
a cast Massey tub but rather pressed steel rails. The fuel tank looks Fordson as do
the side rails, front axle and 3 pt hitch casting. The front of the transmission
looks like a Massey transmission, but can't be sure. The 744 and 745 Massey did have
a P4 or P6 English Perkins, but this tractor is an oddball Look for " enfor" in the
castings, may be a hint to its English Fordson roots. Ben

Thankyou for the information, it does look exactly like the 745
Just a shame about the unknown information in the tractor data sheet.
I will look for info on the 744pd to see if any information is good for both.
I think this one will have to come home with me.
Cant resist

What you have there sir is rocking horse s**t. It is not a cobbled up Fordson, it is a Massey- Harris 745 S. The last of the Kilmarnok built tractors when the
supply of cast frames (imported from North America) had dried up, so channel frames were used. A large number of tractors had failure where the channel is
joined to the rear housing so you better check yours. Came out in '57 Should have serial number prefix 'M'-1957 or 'N'-1958.

Where is Wakanui? Been a while... south of Chch? Was that a steam traction museum or club?
57 eh? That might have been the experiment that convinced MHF to buy Perkins -rather than inflict the world with 23c's. Think that was in late 58?
Oh that thing has a few minor problems, being horse drawn is a big issue- but yeah, for Mike to bring it home and 'have' it, is a good first step. Seems another MH brain donor that size will do.

The 744 was fitted with The P6/ 288. The later 745 was fitted with The Perkins L4 not The P4. The L4 was a much bigger engine than The P4, The P4 was 192 cu ins. The L4 was 270 cu ins.
