Fuel nozzle dropped in fuel tank

While fueling up a MF 245, the 4" plastic nozzle from a fuel container dropped into the fuel tank.

The engine hasn't been started since then.

I can't see the nozzle.

How do I get it out of there ?

Will it cause damage ?

I found a metal flexible fuel spout in the tank of my 1973 135. I couldn't tell you how many years it's been since metal spouts were a thing, it's been in there a long time. I don't think it will damage anything other than possible getting caught up in the fuel level sender.

Getting mine out was a matter of shaking the empty (and dry) fuel tank upside down until I got it to the fill hole, then pulling it out with my fingers; all attempts of hooking it with tools and pieces of wire failed.

The fuel shouldn't dissolve the plastic nozzle, if you didn't start it because the nozzle fell in, it shouldn't hurt to run it. You can run it until the fuel level is low, or you can drain the tank, you maybe able to see, and or get to it then. I would run it until its low on fuel, I've seen fuel tanks that had things inside them (like a plastic nozzle) that got dropped in the tank many years earlier. A lot of the floats used for the fuel level sender in the tank are plastic.

Wow. That's the second one that I've heard of that both were in a 245. Don't know when it got there but I pulled one out of mine several years ago. No issue with running it, I did and didn't know it was there :)

MF#1, marloweg, ptfarmer and nophun,

Thank you for your replies.

Relieved it's not an immediate problem.

When the fuel is low, I'll try fishing it out with a three prong grabber.

As for flipping the fuel tank upside down and shaking it, do you recommend removing the fuel tank from the tractor first ? :)

If you end up removing the tank, it's a good opportunity to check / adjust the valve lashes at the same time too.. and change the antifreeze if it's like with 168 that you need to remove a rad hose to get the tank off.
