M-F 1010 Help

I am working on a 1984 M-F 1010 Compact Model, 4WD diesel. It won't start, trying to trace some electrical wires-schematic in manual doesn't quite match what I'm seeing in tractor manual. There is a plastic socket and wire in-line from the battery ground cable going somewhere up towards the dash. I can't get the socket apart so don't know if it's a fuse or not. On the drawing, the starter shows a 'fusable link' but that is only a cloth covered HD wire from battery post to solenoid. With battery new and charged, no dash lamps when switch in 'Glow Plug Warm-Up' position, then dash idiot lights on when key is turned to the START position but no click, no nothing. The lights and horn do not work and they should even if the key not ON at switch and engine off. I tried to do a continuity test on one wire running from starter battery post to the switch and get nothing. I should at least get continuity regardless if engine is running and/or key switch ON. The switch may be bad, but a new ne costs $50 or more...any other tests I can do???
