Mf245 transmission shear coupler

Does anyone have a procedure for changing the transmission to pinion shear coupler without splitting the tractor? I have the service manual, it's no help on the situation. I did see a post here discussing it, but I didn't see any details on what was involved...

Hello,
I have not had any problems removing and refitting the coupler and shaft through the LH side cover. Yes, it is a
fiddly job and you have to understand exactly how it fits before trying to refit it. The main thing is patience to
be able to fit the shaft into the reduction unit on the rear of the gearbox. With the shaft fitted the coupler
should be slid rearwards to engage the pinion shaft. Ensuring that the shaft is fully forward and the coupler fully
rearward insert the split pin in a hole which will give the MINIMUM end float. The shaft must NOT be under any
pressure against the reduction unit. If you can fit the splitpin from the top or other side it will be easier to
open the legs. The UK parts list for the 245 does not show an IPTO variation or auxilliary pipework only the manual
PTO. If your tractor is fitted with these that might prevent access through the side.

The US 245's did have IPTO as a option, after serial number 9A349239 US 245's with live pto also could have auxiliary hydraulics. So it depends on the tractor as David P said. I have never had to change a shear coupler out so I wasn't 100% sure (I figured it could be done on some tractors if you understand how it goes together) that it could be done through the left side cover.
