MF 1130 Clutch

I bought a MF1130 last fall. It seemed to work fine but I never used it, just parked it in the shed for the winter. This spring I went to use it and after I started it, you couldn't shift it into gear without it grinding. If you shut the tractor off and put it in gear and started it the tractor keeps going. It's like the clutch went out being parked. Any ideas or suggestions what the problem is?

Very early models had a single disc clutch, late models use a double disc clutch. Dad's late high hour 1100 stopped releasing because one of the three release levers broke. Could also be discs stuck to the pressure plate and/or flywheel, or the floating spacer plate stuck in the flywheel grooves it's supposed to slide in when clutch is released. Take the lower cover plate off and look up inside, with a helper pushing the pedal see if all three levers come back with the pedal up. A broken lever will stay forward. If levers are OK the clutch MIGHT come loose driving in high range second gear, holding the clutch pedal down, then applying both brakes to shock the plates loose. Worth a try, but be careful using a large open area away from trees, buildings, etc.

Well, when the inspection hole is open, and you peak up there, and have that buddy pressing the clutch pedal down, you might as well stick something in there and see if you can move things free, if possible.
