Pinion gear damage with Multipower clutch disc failure

I was putting the transmission back together on my 175 and noticed that the 22 tooth pinion gear that splines to the transmission input shaft had excessive (dished) wear on the thrust surface where it contacts the input shaft spacer. After doing some measuring I determined that If all of the friction material wore off of the Multipower clutch discs then the clutch clutch piston would over-travel by approximately .050" reducing the gear play to zero. The pressure from the piston on the gear would cause this wear. Has anyone ever trimmed the inside hub on the clutch piston and or leaned up the pinion assembly that engages the friction discs? It wouldn't be too hard to do this. Just wondering if anyone has seen this problem. Also; does anyone know the thickness of a new Multipower friction disc? My clutch pack has .072" clearance on the discs when assembled.
Thanks
