what is wrong with our neighbour's MF tractor

ivor from UK here and I have not been here for some time but I am back
our neighbour has a 15 year old MF 4wd tractor about 100 HP but I am not sure of the model, about a month ago fluid started leaking from both rear outer halfshaft seals so he took it to the main dealer about 15 miles away thinking new seals would fix the problem but it was not to be , the bearing housing was turning inside the halfshaft housing causing considerable damage he was given a price of at least ?7000 but probably a lot more , what would cause this damage to both sides. the farmer has recently purchased a large slurry tanker and I know that he does not approve of regular servicing

Hello Ivor,
Can you give us a tractor model? It would be a lot easier to come up with a possible answer. Could it be a 3000 or 3600 series?

It could be David. P or 15 years old 6000 series? and I bet he has not taken the plugs out of the axle housing ends, put nipples in and greased the bearings that are now stuffed. (See instruction book still in unopened plastic bag behind seat!)

the tractor is a MF 6270 and he has sold it to a local dealer and has bought a slightly newer model from a dealer at south wales an is waiting for loader valve to be changed

Hello, now that we have a model number I would absolutely agree with your thoughts on this. Assuming that the centre housing has not run dry then bearing failure if these plugs have not been removed and grease nipples fitted temporarily for servicing is a very real possibility......ouch!!!!!!
