Massey 1085 fuel problems

My 1085 was idling in the driveway and just died like it ran out of fuel. Which it may have the fuel gauge does not work. Put fuel in it and new fuel filters. Bled the system the way the book says. But I can not get fuel to the injectors. Bled it three more times. Getting fuel out of all the bleeders. Took the injection pump off and had it rebuilt. They went through it and said it was not bad. Put it in on and still the same thing. Running the lift pump with a bleeder open it feels and pumps good. With all bleeders closed and bled there is resistance for about 5 pumps then it feels like it is not pumping good. Wait 1 minute and it feels good for about 5 pumps again. Still not getting fuel to the injectors. Fuel is everywhere else. Thanks ahead of time.

What brand filters did you use? If WIX/NAPA brand there's a common mistake of putting an extra O ring in the filter top outer groove. That will restrict or block off the fuel flow enough to cause bleeding and/or running problems. Made several service calls to correct that mistake..

Once you have good fuel running out the bleeders from the lift pump, you have to use the starter to get the fuel to the injectors. Open all injector
lines and crank engine until you have fuel to the injectors, close injector lines, and then you should hear it start to fire. May take a few times
more, opening injector lines, to get all the air out.

Had to correct a few of them myself over the years.

Filter oring is in the wrong spot.. it goes UP IN the filter head NOT ON the filter..
Use the bleed screw ON the inj. pump.. its the double screw by the name plate. 5/16"
Good luck.

Go to your nearest Massey dealer and get the correct filters for starters. Changing these filers and bleeding the pump is simple and quick just like on the MF 1130's 1100's, 1105's, 1135's 550 combines, 750 and 760 combines. You should not have to be cracking open injection lines to chase air out just use the 2 screws off the pump. I just changed fuel filters on my 1100 Mf last week, takes 15 minutes.

Step 1 get correct filters
step 2 pump the filters full of fuel using the lift pump. Make sure the bleed screws on the pump are closed. Watch the glass
bowls on the filters and make sure they are full, you will notice resistance on your lift pump.

step 3 Crack open one of the screws on the pump and go back pumping the lift pump until fuel starts squirting out and then do
the next one but close the first screw. Repeat this until the fuel squirts a nice bubbly FREE stream of fuel from each
screw. Sometimes if you your stroke on the lift pump feels weak just hit the starter and that should get thing lined up
again. Tighten screws up.

Step 4 Turn tractor over if he is not smoking or starting he is not getting fuel. Repeat step 3 until all air is out of
the system It is really easy.

Thanks for posting this. I just spend half a day messing around with my first fuel filter change on my Cockshutt 1650. The filter looked a little different, but figured it looked ok, and WIX says its the correct filter....

Of course it was -6C when trying to do this, and I put a huge strain on my starter after cranking it so much. I thought I wasn't doing something right, until I put the old filter back on, bled the system again, and it fired up fine.

Guess ill be calling my AGCO dealer for the correct filters.
