245 MF wiring

Neighbor has a 245 and it's wired wrong. Will not die when key is turned off. He replaced with new and still will not die.Has plug in harness on back key and he said it hasn't been cut into. It is either coil wired hot or key wired hot. Can the battery wire to coil be on wrong side and will it run wired backwards? Haven't looked at it yet. Needed ideal before I help him.

Connect a volt meter at input to the coil. Engine not running. With switch on is there voltage at the coil? With switch turned off does voltage at coil drop back to zero? If so switch is ok, if coil has voltage with switch off there is a switch wiring problem.

What alternator does it have. Run on is a common problem with replacement Delco 10SI series alternator if there is no isolation (diode, resistor or idiot light) between switch and #1 pin on 2 terminal edge plug.
