Electronic ignition

Getting distributor rebuilt for 1966 MF 135 Continental,
rebuilder call and asked if I wanted electronic ignition or stay
with points. I gambled and said to go electronic ignition, hope I
made right call. All input appreciated

I have found while it can work well the cost of a new set of points is by far way cheaper then the electronic ignition. I just took an electronic ignition off an 8N a couple weeks ago because it stopped working after just a few hours run time. Put in a new set of points and it is running just fine now. I have tractor that I have not change the point on them in 10 plus years and they run just fine

I don't think you made a mistake. While points are definitely cheap it can sometimes be difficult to find a good quality set. I have electronic (5-6 years)on one tractor, points on the other two (all Z134 engines). I plan to put it on the other two when I find some play money not allocated to anything else tractor related. Haven't had to mess with the electronic ign. at all since install.
If in doubt, you can still keep a set of points handy if you run into trouble, no worse to change from electronic to points than it is to swap out a set of points/condenser etc.

I opted for a Pertronix a few years ago and never looked back. Starts good, runs crisp, doesn't slobber black soot... I also went with the coil from them. Good hot spark and a 180 degree thermostat made all the difference. I kept the points but threw them out last winter during a clean up. I can buy a set pretty quick if I need to. The coil allowed me to open the plug gap to 0.040. It felt like it needed a bit more timing lead afterward. Plugs stay clean now.
