MF135, plastic or metal?

When does a 135 have a metal nose and when does it have a plastic one? Mine is a 135 1969 deluxe with the 3 cyl gas motor, and seems to have come with the plastic nose. When I got the tractor I got a brand new metal replacement with it. I use this tractor for some farming stuff yet, but I like to know what's right for historic preservation. So... when did they come with a metal one compared to the plastic style?

Don't know they would put a plastic nose on a tractor. As far as historic preservation unless its some sort of special tractor like the first one ever off the assembly line its not worth loosing any sleep over preserving it.

I've seen references to the plastic nose in the parts book, but there doesn't seem to be any real indication to why some do and some don't or which years have the plastic nose. I'm curious, is it plastic like a molded plastic such as ABS or is it a fiberglass reinforced plastic?

My MF 135 is same as yours, it's got the metal nose. Never thought about looking up what year it was but the guy I got it from said it was late 60's

Where are the serial numbers on em any way?

Preservation for me isn't about value, it's more about historical context. Understanding when and why changes were made can be helpful to understand the company as a whole. I find it interesting to know and preserve what I can.

I'm no plastic expert. It seems somewhat flexible still, really only the MF logo and plastic part were broken. It may or may not be original, but its wear is in line with the rest of the machine. It's been off the tractor since I bought it, I have been running it naked. Next time I'm over at the shop I can grab a picture of it if that helps.

Found this in the parts book
Metal nose Perkins gas, and diesel, used prior to tractor serial number 64103026.
Plastic nose Perkins gas, and diesel, used tractor serial number 64103026 thru 9A122238.

Metal nose Continental gas, used prior to tractor serial number 64103026.
Plastic nose Continental gas, used used tractor serial number 64103026 and up.

The parts book shows to use a metal nose to replace the plastic nose.

The 135's that I've seen that had a plastic nose were either all cracked, and missing pieces, or the nose was completely missing. I don't know of anyone makes, or sells replacement plastic noses.

Our 1965 2135 Z 134 Continental has a plastic nose.

That is a nice looking tractor. I started painting my turf 20 red and grey-and some yellow... but now it needs a re-paint again, the original yellow is growing on me.
We could tell people we are farming with Minneapolis Molines. I heard of a guy with a fleet of Allis Chalmers he painted green and yellow... there was always a car parked on the road with a pair of binoculars... they musta thought he had the 'rare' ones...
BTW , my '69 turf 20 got a metal one, my '72 2135 got the fiberglass nose.
