MF 205 Diesel - Hydraulic Lift Quit Working

Hey guys, just traded for a "restored" MF205 Diesel Tractor the other day. Guy stopped by the house wanting to sell it and for the price thought it was a decent deal. Everything worked great on it when he dropped it off and I also ran it a for approximately 40 minutes on The next day.

This past Saturday we started it up and now it will not lift the bushhog cutter on the rear. Do you think that the hydraulic pump all of a sudden went out?? Or does it have some type of valve that might have gotten flipped that wouldn't allow the hydraulics to lift. I know we have a small import tractor several years back that happens on and we thought something happened to the lift and were dumbfounded when we found out it was just a valve switched the wrong way. Sorry, I would go and check it myself but it occurred to me after I went out of town.

Here are a few pictures of the Tractor for fun......

(quoted from post at 05:34:30 05/22/17) Does it have a draft control lever?
If so, is it in the down position?

I'm not sure I just got the tractor and it was working one day then the next it wasn't. I thought maybe I hit something by accident when I got off it last. From the pictures it doesn't look like it has one but it could be a lever somewhere else

Got home and checked it out. The tractor does not have a draft control that I can find. When in lift up mode, it makes a whining noise like it is low on fluid. It will lift a little bit but not much. My grandfather filled it up with hydraulic fluid and now it's leaking out the pipe plug where the yellow arrow is pointing. Do you think it is/was low on fluid and now it has air in the system? If so, where is the full/check plug and how would I bleed air??

Do any of you know if this tractor has a hydraulic filter or washable screen? Thinking that could be the issue and would be the first thing to check. I've looked in the parts manual online and haven't seen
anything yet.

ANYBODY ???

The little 205 is a "odd duck" so to speak, not too many people with experience on them. So it may take a little time to get answers on it. You might need to get a shop, and a operator manual for it http://www.agcopubs.com/ Looking at the parts book there is no draft control, just a position control. It does have a strainer, but I do not know how to access it.

Yeah I can tell it is an odd duck and not a lot know about them. I looked myself on the parts manual and couldn't make anything of it. Where is the strainer even located ?? I will be happy to get pictures of anything you need to see. I also have a Massey a dealer researching it for me.

I looked up the E18 tractor and I think you're right. I read something that said there should be a filter strainer towards the bottom of the rear end case. I will have to wait until tomorrow evening to see
what I can find.

Finally found the filter screen and check it out!!! Plugged up majorly!! Do you guys have any recommendations on cleaning it? I ended up scraping off the buildup with a razor blade carefully but it is still majorly plugged.

Pictures are of it as it was removed.

(quoted from post at 10:20:51 05/31/17) I don't see why it can't be washed with diesel.

It sure is clogged pretty bad. The bulk came off with a razor blade but what is left is thick and dry. What would the best way to clean it so that all of the pores are perfectly clean?

If its a steel mesh a engine machine shop could hot tank it in caustic. If it's a plastic mesh soaking it in diesel is probably your best bet. Maybe try some tractor salvage yards, see if one of them has one that's in better shape, or hopefully your dealer can find one. If it were me I'd probably make one.

Would soaking it in berrymans carb dip work??

Would soaking it in berrymans carb dip work?? It is NLA from the dealer.

I think carb dip would do the job.
