Massey instant reverse transmision won't move

I have a Massey 2500 forklift with the instant reverse transmission that just stopped moving. It was working fine and had lots of power in both directions. I was moving on the level with no load, went to change directions and it wouldn't go in either direction. Didn't hear any strange noises. I checked the linkages and everything looks ok. I read that the lever that goes through the bell housing that works the direction valve gets loose and can cause trouble. Mine is loose, but I unhooked it and can feel resistance in either direction like it is moving the valve spool. I don't know where to go from here. I have a shop manual, but there is no troubleshooting info. The manual covers all the stuff about disassembly, and reassembly etc., but no info on pressure testing. Does anyone have any diagrams on the pressure testing points and required pressures? Seems like I lost oil pressure. The oil level is up where it should be. Any ideas?

The spline coupling between the transmission and rear end may have sheared or the retaining pin fell out. It is not uncommon. Take the round cover on the right side by your foot off and you can see it. Guess it would be on the left side if it is a fork lift.

I cracked the line from the oil filter and no oil flow (machine running), just a few drips. I took the filter off and only a very small amount of oil in the housing, looks like no oil flow. Bad pump?

Have you checked the sump screen to be sure it is clean? It seems strange that a pump would fail instantly, although I'm sure it's possible. There should be a test port in the top of the bell housing, directly above the transmission pump with an 1/8" NPT plug. You can remove the plug and attach a 400 psi gauge. Start engine and idle up to 1000 rpm. Without engaging either pedal, you should have between 150 and 160 psi. If correct, engage one of the pedals (forward or reverse) and the pressure should drop momentarily (as the system pressures up against the piston in the respective clutchpack), then should return to within 5 psi of the original pressure. If it does not return to this pressure, it indicates that you have lost integrity within the clutch pack. Repeat with the other pedal.

Have you checked the oil level of the reverser? I believe it is separate from the transmission and rear end. Should be a fill plug on the left side just behind the engine about half way up from the bottom.

They won't move when the oil level is too low. Check the large plug by the forward reverse levers. They use red ATF fluid like a car.
