water in hydraulics

What's the trick for fixing this? Drain and a refill, but what about water that's gotten up high??

Dummy me, I checked and saw that the level was high and was going to pull the plug to see if water had gotten in, and in all the excitement of it running; I forgot. To make matters worse, I grabbed ahold of the lift lever and cycled it up and down too.

Not the end of the world. Drain it out with the levers down and let it sit for a couple days with the plugs out. You can put a few gallons of diesel in there to rinse out any left over water if you want too. Drain it out and fill it with hydraulic oil and you are back in business. Of course fix however it got in there in the first place too.

I have seen filters which can be put in the hydraulic lines temporarily to remove water, might be something to do after you've drained and refilled just to get any residual.

Remember there is 8 gallons of fluid in there so have some 5 gallon pails. Check the shift levers. The rubber boots usually dry out and if left in the rain that is one place that is noted for water entering

let it drain out
refill, water goes to the bottom,
if the tractor sets for a while you could open the drain plug, drain some oil out into a glass beaker, let it set for a day or two, the oil/water will separate, if you do not see any water you are good to go.

I am not big on adding cleaners to the sump, if there is built up debris on the sides or bottom of the sump area, these cleaners will break it loose and you will pump this debris through your hyd pump and valves. could really mess things up,

if the hyd system is working fine, just water in sump, drain it good, add new oil and tractor on, that is my solution.
