MH 1455 4WD problem

New to the group and was wondering if anyone has any info on why the 4WD might not be working. I have just bought a 2004 MH 1455 tractor with FEL from a buddy and he told me the 4WD lever was not engaging the front axle. If he pushes on it past the proper location for being in 4WD he makes a squeaking noise. I haven't pick the tractor up to check it myself. I have heard that sometimes it is just a shear pin somewhere. Any ideals? I pick it up Wednesday

first thing I would do is take the cover off the 4X4 drive shaft and see if the snap rings have slipped off the drive shaft, they hold the 2 couplers on that join the drive shaft to the front axle and transmission, I have seen this more than once
