MF 135 Vertical Lever Assy: mysterious spring

When I removed the Hydraulic Lift Cover I found a broken piece piece of steel spring laying loose on top of the roller of the control lever, but i can not match the fracture face with the section remaining piece still riveted to the vertical lever.
Does anyone know the orientation and the function of this small spring as I can not find it.

Based on your description it seems to be the tension spring for the knurled adjusting screw on the lever. Did you take the roller out before lifting the cover off? If that is not the right spring can you post a picture so we can see what it looks like?

thanks for your quick reply. I think it is indeed that spring and yes, as I am a first timer, I lifted without taking the roller out and now pay the price. That'll teach me for thinking i can do this.

Ah, thanks PTFARMER, that explains it. Tried to post two good pictures but failed bitterly. :? How many posts to go before i can post some pictures? Bought a 1970 MF 135 and loving every minute of it, despite the intense fights with ruts, dirt, corroded bolts and nuts. What a great piece of engineering.
