Good morning I have a question about what I believe is a Davis 102 loader. The in line hydraulic housing does not seal on the loader the cap keeps leaking no matter how much seals or blue RTV we use. The parts guy at kipperts trailer locally here is not helpful at all he only works limited amount of days and always seems to be to busy to help out with a older tractor problem. We can get the seal to seal while the tractor is running the second we shut it off it leaks gallons of hydraulic fluid. I looked up a old davis loader manual online. It says the hydraulic in-line filter housing requires 20 G.P.M and needs 2150 P.S.I. Is this true? With my limited experience the 2150 P.S.I seems really high and I can not find a In-line housing to replace that does 20 G.P.M and 2150 P.S.I. Does anybody know of a replacement housing for the hydraulic filter that would work for this tractor? The big question that I need answered is does this loader needs 2150 P.S.I to work to me it seems high like really high. Thank you for your time.

A little background on me I have very limited tractor experience I worked on a ranch in Montana back in 2001 but joined the army soon after and have been doing that ever since as a 11B and Later Drill Sergeant my work experience has nothing to do with any major mechanical expertise or hydraulics of any kind.

Just another question can I replace the cartridge type filter housing with a spin on for the hydraulic in-line filter? As long as I keep the same fitting on the spin on so I do not impede the flow the hydraulic system needs to operate.

Where is the inline filter? If it's like my 202 it's on the suction side of the pump, behind the grille up front.
I have heard it said that the filter should never be on the suction to the pump (cavitation if filter is plugged) but in the return line where the fluid goes back into the reservoir.
So the fluid just leaks out the top of the filter when the tractor is turned off? Sounds like maybe something is missing in the filter canister or it's been damaged. Could you post some pictures? I've never had issues with mine leaking there. It leaks from other places though..........lots of 'em
Oh, and RTV is never a good option when dealing with any type of oil, just won't stick and with hydraulics, it's something you definitely do NOT want getting into your fluid. Can cause a blockage which would drive you nuts trying to find and could get expensive fast.
