231S TANK FILTER

I continue to have a problem with the in fuel tank filter clogging and shutting off fuel flow. I have over the months taken the tank off cleaned it and replaced the filter but the problem keeps coming back.
The problem seems to be algae. My Ford never has a problem with just a regular external fuel filter. I am tempted to just remove the tank filter and try to find a inline filter so that I can at least clean it
without draining the fuel tank each time. any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I assume this is a diesel engine? You'll need to really clean that tank out to purge the fungus. Then find a new supplier as their storage tanks are contaminated. Could also try adding diesel stabilizer to your fuel which contains a fungicide.

This is a diesel and I gather from your experience that trying to add an external filter is not any answer. I just wish I had a way to clean the filter without having to empty the tank. I don't seem to have a
problem with my MF 243. Thanks for taking time and giving response.

I'd clean the tank out really good, and make sure that any diesel that goes in is filtered right before it goes in the tank. On my old MF2135 industrial I removed the factory shutoff valve, and installed a ball valve in its place. Then I put a filter after the ball valve so it can be cleaned, or replaced easy.

that is what I would like to do but where could I get a ball valve? Cleaning the filter would not be hard if it could be done without draining all the fuel. I have done it at least three times.

Any hardware store should have a 1/4"npt brass ball valve, and any other fittings.
