MF65 gas (continental)...diesels after shut off.

It just started recently. Happens after the engine is fully warm (hot) operating temp.
Runs on for 5 to 10 seconds after the key is turned off.
What causes it? Will it lead to a larger problem? How do I fix it?

Without more information, sounds like it has the idle set to high. Is it running rich, black smoke? If so, lean the carb down a little.

If the static timing is advanced too far it will be harder to start, and it will diesel. If it always starts easy, and the idle is a little too high, or if the idle mixture is a little rich (some black smoke out the exhaust when idling) it will diesel.

Caused by accumulated carbon under the head and/or plugs becoming red hot and ignites the the gas mixture
when the ignition switch is off. carbon may be caused by burning some oil from worn rings...
dirty carburetor or adjusted too rich...poor gas...old gas.

If tractor is used only few hours per year I suggest premium gas and gas stabilizer Stabil or others.
