F40 clutch finger adjustment

Replaced my PTO clutch disc and the book says to use the "special gage" to adjust the fingers.....Well I don't have a "special gage" so does anyone have an measurement they could share?

TIA!

The ones I have replaced were preset. I bought the complete unit. I didn't do anything to the pressure plate. Did you take old pressure plate apart and just replace pto clutch plate? If so I've seen it done but don't remember what it was set at. It's hard to do and I didn't have equipment to do it. I took it to a shop. This is why I just buy new pressure plate.

The I&T repair manual has a diagram with the dimensions for that tool. I made one from some sheet metal. Have also heard of using plexiglass. The adjustment process isn't difficult if you have the tool.

Hi, not sure which clutch unit is fitted to the F40 but if it is the normal Spicer-Laycock unit fitted to other tractors then the actual height is not critical as long as the release screws are full depth of thread in the fingers.
What is critical is that they are all adjusted the same. Choose a point on the PTO plate and set each one from that point as you work round.
