Front Tire Damage

I have a 1959 MF-50 Rowcrop-style tractor. Left front tire contacts the bolt holding the oil pan to a large casting that I suppose is to raise the steering support to
allow for the front wheels. This contact causes damage to the outer rib of the tire. I jacked up the front of the tractor and but could not find any fore/aft movement of
the pedestal assembly. The tires are 5.50-16. Any ideas?

Any possibility the front wheel support is bolted to the pedestal the wrong direction. Don't know if they were made for a wide front end too. Checked TractorData.com and they say it has 6.00 x 16 tires.

You might try switching the tires side to side,if a rim was changed and the new one is 1/2 wider or the off set is a little wider it might hit. I expect you will find a bent pedestal.

The MF150 "tricycle" tractor (pretty the same as a MF50) uses a 5.50x16 tire. The AGCO parts book shows they used the same wheel for a 5.0, 5.50, and 6.0 tire.

Is the tire on the right side hitting the right side bolt? Can you turn the bolt around on the left side and put the nut and washer on the other end to gain some clearance?

Data show to use the 600 x 16 but this is wrong. Use the 550 x 16. Some Ferguson data shows to use 550 x 16. I had the same problem until I changed to the 550 x 16. Works great now.

After looking at the picture closer, it looks like Bob H is correct on turning the bolt around.

PTFarmer. Would a 5.0 tire gain me much? Maybe if I combine that with Bob's idea of turning that bolt around, I could
gain plenty of clearance. I'll look into this. thanks!

Did not think of a bent pedestal. Looks OK, but might be hard to determine a slight bend, without taking the whole pedestal apart. Might do that anyway. Thanks!

Well, there's another thought. I don't think so, because it's mounted like a caster, that is, offset towards the rear from the vertical pedestal. Thinking on this, my Farmall H has the axles in-line with the pedestal, not offset like this. I think on the MF-50 it's supposed to be offset that way for ease of steering, but I could certainly be wrong. I've been wrong before -- just ask my wife! Thanks!

BobH, the tire on the right side is not hitting. Could there be a lot of difference in those tires, making the left 5.50-6 a little larger than the right side? The two tires seem to be worn about the same amount.
