240 to 135 Powersteering

Can anyone tell me if a front axle out of an English MF240 will bolt in to a 1967 MF135 Detroit tractor. The 240 was burnt, but the steering cyls, and pump are still good. The steering column not so much. I was going to use a Charlynn ps steering motor. Will this system control the front wheels. I see a guy on youtube that put a Charlynn ps motor on his 202 workbull with the cyls on the front axle, but the 202 has the drag links to keep the toe inline.

Power assist versus full hydrostatic.

240 uses a control valve on the steering column, it's a little hydraulic spool with a linkage that pulls it up or down depending on what way you turn the wheel.

There is still full manual connection to the front wheels. You may be able to salvage the valve off the 240 and put on your 135?

No experience doing the switch, but have a 240 here.

Hello Brian,
If you are looking to bolt the straight-axle axle casting from the 240 to the swept axle 135 then I believe that it may fit. However you will find some differences in the actual attachment. You will no longer need the very long bolts at the bottom of the 135 casting as the 240 uses shorter studs into the sump face. The other possible area of a problem is on the upper bolt. As far as I can recall this bolt goes into the front of the engine block not into the sump. There is a spacer of about 1.5 inches fitted. The other bolts may align but I think that you will have trouble with this one. The sump is of course different because the 240 has the lip type rear crank seal whereas the 135 has the rope type seal.

It depends on which 240 it is? 240P, 240S (TR), 240 (GB), and the 240 made in England. The 240P, 240S (TR) and 240 (GB) is different like David P says. The 240 (built in England) if all 6 bolts for the front support bolt to the oil pan front it should bolt up. You can set it up exactly like the 202 in the youtube video you seen. If the front support is different (the upper right hand bolt goes into the block you could get the engine with it). Just getting rid of the weak swept back front axle without the ps would be an improvement.
