I took the water pump off a Massey Ferguson 35 with the 4 cylinder Continental engine on Friday. It was on my farmer friend's tractor, and I don't charge him. I tried numerous ways to remove the water pump pulley but it was very stubborn. I told him I would be back Sunday afternoon, but he ran it down to a tractor dealership to get it done sooner. He said a young guy took it in the back and returned in about five minutes and said the pulley just broke in the press. It is a $200.00 pulley which they had to order. I should have taken it home and heated the pulley neck in my shed. Hind sight.

Or you could just buy the pump with new pulley already installed. If you heat the old pulley to much you run a big risk of damaging the shaft seal.

The pump with the pulley installed is the way to go. That kid thought he just going to press a brittle cast iron pulley off. The kid, and or the tractor dealer should be buying that pulley.

Yes true. I was more thinking of replacing a broken pulley and reusing the pump but new pump, who cares on the old one.

water pump with pulley from this sight is $58.00 + market place on left tractor parts I have used one no problem

Hi,
Agreed, It is a rare thing to be able to press a water pump pulley off principally because you cannot put the support
where it is needed. If the press pushes on the outside of the 'V' there is very little strength in it. It would have
been far quicker to make up a simple puller to fit the fan holes or threaded holes and either tap a 1/2" or 5/8 thread
in the plate or weld a nut on assuming that you have access to the end of the water pump shaft. Don't forget to record
the position of the pulley first to refit in the correct place.
