MF 135 clutch adjust.

When I got my 135 the clutch released about an inch from the foot plate. I just checked the manual and it says it should be 1 1/4 inch from the top. I see where the measurement should be taken. I loosened the bolt on the clutch pedal. Is the clutch pedal splined. It looks smooth but I can't turn it. I put a steel dowel in the hole to hold the shaft. Hit it with PBBlaster. Do I need to pull the pedal off the shaft to turn it. Thanks, Joe.

Hello Joe,
No, the pedal is not splined. I suspect that you have not loosened the nut and bolt sufficiently. The manual
gives a top clearance figure which is normally around 3/8" free travel at the point where the pedal comes up
against the foot rest bar. What is more important is that the PTO will stop with about one inch of travel
remaining on the clutch pedal. To achieve this you may need to adjust the clutch internally through the
inspection plate hole in the casing under the clutch unit. A largish cross-point screwdriver is normally ideal
for adjusting the pedal on the shaft. Make sure you turn the shaft fully clockwise before setting the pedal. Very
lightly nip up the bolt and push the pedal down to achieve the correct clearance. If you have sprayed the pedal
clamp with a penetrating oil you should remove the pedal and clean it all off. I have had a couple of cases in
the past where the pedal has been oiled and the pedal has slipped on the shaft. It must be clean and dry.

Thanks, I've got it loose, I think it may have never been adjusted in 50 years. I'll hit it with brake cleaner when I get it moving to make sure there is no oil on it. Thanks again, Joe.
