I'm considering a MF65 on Kijiji that's broken down. Please review and tell me if you think it will be an expensive fix. PS I'll be doing it myself.
the add is as follows
" I have here a 1962 MF-65 diesel, I've owned it for 4 years now, I used it for hauling firewood and snow blowing the driveway
It WAS a great running tractor, that never let me down when I needed it, until the last major snow storm we had in February, I started it and let it warm up for a bit [about 15 minutes as i added 20L more diesel] and raised the blower pressed the clutch, shifted to R and started letting the clutch go and heard a rattling sound, like a lose nut it a gear box [the sound came form the clutch/shifter area] and the engine came to a abrupt stop, dead stop, no sounds, no banging, no scrapes or knocks and wont start any more, when you try the starter, it move a little bit then is locked up and it stops the starter.
if i had to guess what actually happened< id guess a nut or a gear tooth broke off/came lose and now is jammed between two gears in the transmission or into the clutch pressure plate/disk area that's where the d\sound came from, and i was letting the clutch go in reverse when it happened
honestly i believe it would be an easy fix and i personally don't believe there is any issues with the motor, really i used this happening as an excuse to buy a brand new tractor instead of just fixing the one i have
the side panel was cut out so i could bleed the injectors i still have the side panel and it would be an easy little weld if you wanted it back on there.
tractor has 1482 hours on it now
blower not included with tractor
this is the "high clearance model" you can see the large drop spindles, and extra large rear adjustable rims, it sits at 80" width at the rear tires now, i put new wheel bearings in the front, it comes with the chains that are on it, and also the front grill/rack. battery is good and strong, the generator quit so i just keep the battery charged by plugging it in any time i also plug the block heater in.
looking putting it up for $1500, im open to offers or trades, [ im interested in anything with a motor and most anything a motor can go on or in], make an offer, the worst that will happen is I say No."
Any ideas regarding what might have busted ?
thanks
Alan
