57 ferguson to35 camshaft installation

I have ordered a new cam and distributor for my to35 and was just wondering if someone could go through the very basics of the installation with me. anything I need to be aware of or any special points of interest I might look out for. My distributor had a malfunction and damaged the drive gear on my old cam is why I am changing it. also the tappets, will I be able to get them out without flipping the engine block and can they be ground (refaced)or should they be left like they are unless they are seriously worn. thanks in advance for all the help.

Dieseltech can you offer an alternative method so fergieman and others know how to properly do it? I know my method is far from perfect but does work. I wrap a rag around the cam from the bottom and hold it while gently taping on the gear with a dead blow hammer. Take a little bit but does work.

Info from a MF Service Manual ...Z134 Engine:

I have NEVER installed a Cam GEAR on a Z134....I'm surprised the procedure did NOT suggest HEATING the CAM GEAR up to 200>220 Deg. F using a TEMP STICK (or equivalent)?
