do you happen to know of a source for a distributor base plate.

With a new camshaft I always put new lifters in, to change the lifters (and to change the cam) the engine needs to be up side down. The lifters can not come out from the top. If you want to take the chance of using the old lifters, and not turn the engine up side down you will need a way to hold all the lifters up. On the Continental there is no easy way (if its even possible) to hold all the lifters up at once to get the camshaft out.

X2 on the lifters. Putting a new cam in and using the old lifters is throwing money, not to mention a lot of time, out the window. Lifters wear to the cam lobes over time. Putting old lifters on old lobes will wear them out real quick.

The engine would need to be up-side down to get the cam, and lifters out. When you have the front cover off, should the balls in the cage for the governor fall out before removing the nut that holds the cage on you may want to replace that assembly as well. The balls will fall out when the cage is worn, when the cage is worn so that the balls fall out, the cage will soon fail (might as well change it out while you have it apart so you don't have to take it apart again).
