135 starved for fuel

First, I know I've got some minor fuel leaks in a couple of places due to bad pipe sleeves or olives. I've got a full set of replacements on the way and will methodically work my way from tank to CAV pump to seal everything up the way it should be.

But one thing I find troubling is that I haven't been able to get any fuel hardly out of the top bleed screw on the CAV pump. I can even get it running briefly with no fuel squirting out of it. The bottom screw on the pump shoots a stream several feet out so I know it's getting fuel, but it only runs for maybe 90 seconds tops. Is this indicative of a pump problem or possibly due to air leakage in the system, it won't prime?

I'll report back after I've re sealed the fuel lines with new olives and bled it.

Thanks,

Jeff

Air leaks in the system can cause all kinds of head pounding. Get things sealed up and see where you stand.

Little or no fuel when running at the top bleed screw is a sign the supply pump is not working correctly. It feeds the system with four to five PSI on both inlet and return side of the injection pump through the filter. There are two check valves in the supply pump, if either one is out of place or fails keeps it from building the pressure as it should. Happened last summer on the neighbor's White-Perkins.

Also make sure if NAPA/WIX filters are used the filter top outer groove DOES NOT have an O ring in it, restricting the inlet flow. On the filter base top there's a constant bleed fitting to keep air out of the filter during use. Make sure the bleed orifice is open, when it plugs the trapped air then goes to the injection pump causing shutdown. Should be a banjo bolt with a small hole in the side, I've seen them plug before.
