MF 135 Deluxe? (pic)

I am sure this topic has been covered by you knowledgeable folks before, but I am relatively new here and need some information.
I am looking at a MF 135 to buy (have not seen it yet) and the owner says it is mid-70's, power steering assist, multi-power, square fenders, under-slung exhaust (he replaced this exhaust with a custom stainless steel exhaust). I am wondering is this what they called a Deluxe? Or was this all standard equipment in the later models? This is a pic of the tractor he sent me. I have yet to make sure its simply a 3 gallon overhaul, but it looks honest and straight. We're looking at trading this for a tractor I have for sale, so it may be a good fit for both of us.

There are MUCH more knowledgeable YT'ers than I on the MF 135. Be sure that you know how to check for proper operation of the Mulipower, as well as the proper operation of controls to operate the 3 point hitch.

Look at the dashboard. How many gauges does it have? The deluxe model should have 5, including the tach. Does it have the gas or diesel engine?

Ok wasn't sure if that picture was of the actual machine or simply representitive. Do you know which varient it is? Standard, orchard or vinyard? Can't tell without seeing the back. The multi-power makes it a deluxe along with the diesel.

I wondered the same thing about the pic, I plan to see it sometime this week and will take more pics.

Always a good question to ask is ..... "How long have you owned the tractor for" ........ something about that question always tells a guy a
lot. Some will reply with vague answers like .... "Oh, for a while now" or "Not sure exactly how long I've had it." Those answers always
scare me.

Hi, I would agree with ddbar3 that the photo looks like it is from a time long gone by. The colour saturation is
reminiscent of MF's photos of the time. If this has a stainless steel exhaust the downpipe should not be the rusty
brown colour that it appears to be. Another pointer that it may be genuine is the painted wheel nuts on the rear hub
and around the outside of the wheel disc, likewise the front hub nuts.

David P and others, here are some pics of the tractor. I still have not seen it, the owner sent me these last night. Anything else you can tell me about it now? Still don't have a good picture of the dash, but it does have a tach. Which version of the tractor is it? Rubber is 14.9x24

So assuming the "I" in the serial number are actually supposed to be 1's... that is a 72 standard deluxe with the optional flat top fenders and lighting. Great machine. Assuming there is not hidden major repairs needed it's a good find.
Out of curiosity how much is he asking for it?

I've got a Ford 2910 for sale that he wants, because he is partial to Ford and his kids can't get used to multi-power (I am assuming he doesn't want it to roll away on them on the hills, etc), and he mentioned in passing that he's going to be getting rid of a 135, and my ears perked up because I am partial to MF LOL. Have not asked him price yet, we still have yet to meet up to look at either tractor. I will keep you posted and see if it ends up in my shed. The SS exhaust system he installed is quite impressive and shows attention to detail.

Rockepg please explain to me the differences between Standard, Orchard, and Vineyard models. There must not be much difference if you needed to see the back end to decide what it was.

It's mostly around the axle. The special model is the bare bones basic model with no options and gas engine. The deluxe can have a gas or diesel and standard axel and drum brakes. The vinyard and orchard models are specialty units and have different hubs and tires and some have a ground clearance difference. The vinyard model also has disc brakes standard. The orchard model has a square axel that is much heavier and planetary units at the ends that give gear reduction and more torque. The vinyard model came with differential lock standard while it's an option on the others. Orchard models also tended to have the monster truck tires to minimize ground compaction around tree roots. Some other little nick nacks like 6,8 or 12 speed transmissions(multi power), gas vs diesel etc but that is essentially it.

Be aware that the multi power is great if it has no problems. But an "expensive" issue if there is problems.
Test drive and head down the hill with the MP in low. as it starts to free wheel shift it to high. The engine should rev as it brakes the momentum. In low it will not. MP and the repair parts are getting
harder to get so keep that in mind.
