Internal hydraulic pump MF40 Industrial

Hello, this is a pic of my Hydraulic pump in my MF 40
Industrial. Needed to replace the cracked Hydraulic cylinder.
A couple of questions:

How do I remove remove Hydraulic filter? Do I cut the wire to
the cap also?

It was suggested that I replace the relief valve but I can't seem
to find it on this pump.

I am also having trouble with this flat head bolt on the
response cover. Any suggestions to removing this?

Thank you and I appreciate all your help!

Yes cut or untie that wire and the cap will screw off to get to the filter. You can remove that cotter pin to slide the coupler back and pull the shaft out for more clearance to work.

That cover is aluminum so don't wale on it! If ptfarmers suggestion doesn't work take a small punch and put in the slot on an angle towards the edge. Tap with small hammer and that should do the trick.

No pressure control on that one so the relief valve should be screwed into the front of the pump. 883402M91 is the part number.

Is there access to the relief valve or do I need to pull the pump
out in order to replace relief valve?

Thank you

So after looking at a picture of the hydraulic pump online, it
looks like the previous owner put a bolt where the relief valve
should go. Could this be the reason the hydraulic cylinder
was cracked?

That picture you have there with the vertical relief valve is an aftermakert unit "option". The only factory pumps that had vertical also had pressure control. That bolt you are referring to is where the pressure control unit would attach. Right next to that on the back side there might be a plug though. Hard to tell from your pic but here is where the valve should go. Item 76 and 77..

Anything is possible i guess. Is your tractor a 40B by chance? The parts book does show one pump with very certain serial numbers that used a pump with no pressure control or relief valve. Why i have no idea but it apparently existed.
If you take that plug off the top there is the chamber inside connected to the hole for the stand pipe? If so then maybe someone put in an aftermarket pump and removed the valve for some reason..

The 40 has the 3.152 Perkins, the 40B has the 4.203 Perkins. With the 9A148523 serial number looks like you have a 1972 MF40.

Ok then a standard 40 should very much have a relief valve. Pull that plug you have circled and see if it connects to the stand pipe hole. If it does it would be a safe bet someone put in aftermarket pump and removed the valve for some reason. Maybe the original one had pressure control and it was removed?

I know this post is a couple of weeks old, however I am currently fixing some of the same issues with my MF40. You have a Mark II pump, and should have had a pressure control valve mounted on top of the rear body or a block with a cartridge style control valve. What shape is the support bracket mounted to the side of the hydraulic lift cylinder? It matters as to the way pressure was adjusted or maintained. The pressure control or safety valve was eliminated and lead to the cracked cylinder. All of the available MF40 Service manuals I have seen are 1st editions and do not have the last revisions pertaining to Lift cylinders and hitch covers in them. You cannot get them from AGCO and unless you know someone who has the dealer version with all the revisions, like me you will have to punt. If you are still having issues with the pump let me know, I have figured out most options.
