MF135 Power Steering

My MF135 has the half-arsed power steering setup. No cylinders just the power steering unit hooked to the steering box. Just to note, I installed a Davis 102 loader on the tractor. Also note that it leaks externally (not into the engine). The box constantly has fluid drops underneath and I have to top off every few hours. I will be fixing that this spring.

The power steering works great when there is nothing in the loader. Sitting still I can turn the wheel with one finger. When there is any load in the bucket it is as if I have no power steering. I lifted a 450 lb piece of equipment and the power steering was non-existent. My question is.........Is that normal for this type of power steering? I assume it is since it works fine with no load, and the power steering was not designed to work with a loader on the front. Or could it be because my power steering isn't quite up to par since leaking and what not?

Unrelated......I have a MF part that this website does not sell. Is there anywhere to list that part for sale on the site? If not, is it ok to create a thread for a part for sale if that part is not available for sale on the site?

Trying to get this straight. Is your loader and power steering working off the same pump?

I assume that you have some aftermarket power steering unit and not the MF stock power steering. If you have the MF stock PS, it should
work excellent with the bucket fully loaded. I have an aftermarket power steering unit on my MF135 that I installed because I wanted to
put a medium duty loader on the tractor. Is your PS unit like that one? With or without the bucket full (800 lbs or so), even this after market PS unit will allow you to
steer the tractor with one hand, but you do feel the difference between a full load and nothing in the loader.

If sounds like your pump may not be putting out full pressure, it might be low in fluid, or there might be some binding in the front
spindles or front center king pin that partially locks up with heavy weight on the front end.

Wasn't the factory option considered power assist? Not true power steering but just the helper unit that sits on the steering box.

This is what I have. The power assist. It works fine with no load but once I put a load in it is non-existent. What I am trying to figure out is if my situation is normal since the power assist is not true power steering and the power assist is not meant for an additional 800 lbs sitting on the front axle.

The loader and power steering are not working off the same pump.

It is the stock power steering assist unit.

There are no hydraulic cylinders in the front end.

I may not have been clear in my original post. To simplify the question. Would you expect the power assist of a MF135 to work when there is a load in the front end loader?

Mine does work without a load but does not work with a load, leading me to believe that possibly the power assist is not meant to be effective with a load on the front end. Either that or my power assist is not working 100%.

I would agree that power assist would be minimal with a load on the front. Kind of minimal without a load soo....
