sending unit

While i am waiting for the block and head to come back i decided to see why the gas gauge always showed empty. Turns out the tin float has a hole in it and was always sunk. Explains that... Ohm'd out the sending unit and down it shows 100 and up it 2k. That seems really odd to me considering most auto type sending units operate withing 200 ohms or less. Anyone know what the resistence is supposed to be?
1966 MF135 is the machine.

actually it's the Z145 continental. I have the part number for a replacement but am wondering what the ohm range is supposed to be. Want to get a new fuel gauge as well and need to know the correct range for it. Found a reference on "the google" that the correct range is 0-240 ohms. Is that correct?

Put the old float in a dish of hot water with the hole on the very bottom to push out any liquid trapped inside. When air bubbles start coming out pull it out of the water. Polish up the area around the hole and put a tiny amount of solder on it. I have done this to several floats and never had a problem with them afterwards.

I have the original fuel level gauge on my 2135 with the Z134 gasser. The gauge has 10-240 ohms in small letters on the face of it.
