Help with older Massey 135

:?: I need help with a older Massey Ferguson made Mid to late 1960s. The 3 point doesn't work and the PTO is very hard to engage. I would love some advice on what to look at? And what to do to fix this great machine. I am new and green so I could use a detailed description. Sorry! But any and all replies are greatly appriciated

Have you checked your oil level in the differential case? Is it clear and clean looking or milky and nasty looking?

No but I will in the morning. Can you please give me some answers for what I find? clear must be good I assume. What if something else like milky white? I know low level add. Thank you for your response.

Do you have a repair manual? You will probably need one. The PTO engagement problem could mean the clutch needs to adjusted, or worst case needs to be replaced. As for the 3ph., the control valve in the pump could be stuck.

Milky white means there is water in the oil. Lets start with the basics. Do you have external hydraulics installed? Is there a lever under your right leg or no? If there is it needs to be in the right position for the 3pt to work. If there is no lever then there is another issue. Do the two quadrant levers, position and draft, on the right move full range and freely?
When you shift the pto to engine does the shaft turn at least? Remember you have to use the clutch to shift pto states. Don't just jam it into engine or ground selection.
How does it drive? Does the clutch slip at all? Look under the bell housing for any oil leaking out in the clutch area.

Do you have a manual yet as bob asked? If not it's time to get one. Also if you don't have a 3k psi pressure gauge pick one up off amazon or somewhere.

Ok here is the follow-up on my post. Checked differential or hydro fluid and it was a little low, After reply to my post I did a lot of reading on this site on best type of oil for the hydraulics and chose Massey Ferguson approved fluid in the 5 gallon buckets. I fully drained the fluid and besides being thin and a little low it looked alright. I cleaned the drain plug and around filler plug and refilled. Pto and 3 point work nice and smooth no jitter when running 3 point like before the fluid change. I would like to thank the people who responded to my post and members who contributed to all I read to do the job properly.

The pto is working fine after the hydraulic oil change. I just throttle down when I kick in the pto then throttle up and there's no grinding at all. I don't know if this is how your supposed to operate it but I can get work done with it.
