1958 TO-35 Steering Column Leak

1958TO-35

Hello YT!

We're pretty new to tractors and amateur mechanics.

We bought a 1958 TO-35 with a leak right under the oil seal. Searching the forums, there were a few other folks with the same problem, but not much information on how to fix it.

We downloaded a manual and found an exploded diagram of the steering assembly. We guessed it was the upper oil seals that had gone bad and ordered a "Steering Sector Hardware And Seal Kit" from external_link

We got the steering wheel off but our steering assembly doesn't match the exploded diagram we have or match (it seems) the seals we received in the kit.

Here's an album with photos and more notes:

Maybe we have the wrong diagram? Ordered the wrong kit? The steering is not original?

It seems like an easy repair if we had the right information and parts. Can you kind folks help us?

Thanks!
Kent and Aubrey

If it's not a power steering tractor,
Many old gearboxes are just pumped full of John Deere or IH corn head grease and they run for ever

Thanks for the reply, Maxwell, it's a power steering tractor. Check out the link to the photos for more details...

Don't know how that kit could fit both manual and ps models when the steering shafts are not the same diameter. Power steering models are larger.
