Good morning my friends. I got a question for you all. Will it hurt to soak my diesel injectors in carb cleaner or do I need to get fuel injector cleaner? I have to clean the carb on my 640 Ford so I'm going to buy one of those gallon cans with the basket in it for that. I didn't know if it would hurt the o rings or something in the injectors or not. Thanks.

I have a Neighbour who owns a MF 35... Diesel. As the Tractor pulled into my yard it sounded like the fuel Injections and or Fuel pump was faulty. His concern was, "could he remove the Injectors,SOAK then in some sort of 'Concoction' and have then run properly"?

I assured him not to do it!

We loosened off each individual fuel line and was able to direct him to exactly the cylinder that was causing the unnatural combustion sound. Several days later I assisted the gentleman in SWAPPING out the Faulty Injector with an Injector from the adjacent cylinder to verify that indeed the Injector was faulty. Well it's your money your Tractor Neighbour......after he soaked the Injector.... the Tractor was attached to a Three Point hitch Disc. Something terribly went astray! A Piston Crown Failed .....I convinced him to have the Injectors checked....the piston that brock up was on the same power cylinder as an Injector with the TIP orifices partially plugged with foreign material as well as what appeared to be foreign material from what ever was in the container of concoction. Yes the Injector that was proven to be FAULTY several days earlier.

There has been much shared / and stated on YT as to how, who, should service FUEL INJECTORS.

My Neighbour Lamented and cried for days on the Cost of the Diesel shop......he had NO idea that his lack of listening and lack of education caused him his own problems.

All the best with your endeavours:

I take them completely apart to clean injectors, then reset the opening pressure as needed. If an injector is stuck closed there's a risk of severe injection pump damage..

DT & myself see it on a daily basis.. either written on the web or in person..
I cringe EVERYTIME I see where someone writes, " I cleaned my injectors"..
Sure, you CAN clean the carbon off the tip.. where do you think all that carbon goes??
Jammed right into those tiny little holes.. A plugged nozzle = a seized pump when dealing w/ a rotary style injection pump..
So instead of spending the small amount of $ to get them checked, your spending a KOOL GRAND to get a new head & rotor put in your old pump, not to mention the labor involved if you don't know how to pull it & put it back on properly, in time..
Nothing short of a sonic cleaner or specialty wire, will get the nozzle holes clean.. THEN the opening pressure has to be reset using a pop tester.. and lets not forget about new gaskets.. top & bottom..
I'm sure someone is gonna say, I do it all the time.. All I have to say to that is, Congratulations..
