Power Steering Pump MF202 Workbull

I was checking around for prices on a Cessna power steering pump and was kind of shocked with what I found.

YT, this site lists one for $612. When I called an Agco company they told me Twelve hundred and some odd dollars. What the heck could be the difference in the pumps?

Anyone here know where to get a decent priced pump or a rebuilt one, or know of someone that will rebuild one.

1958 MF202 workbull with Z135 Continental 4 cylinder gas engine.

I still have the power steering pump (but no drive gear) off my 65 MF 2135 industrial. If it still works I don't know, if you have a FEL on the tractor they say the extra weight will wear the drive gear for the ps pump much faster. If you do have a auxiliary hydraulic pump on the front you could tap into that.

Do you have a pic of the pump? I'm thinking some of the early snow plow pumps for pickup trucks used a similar pump. I have one somewhere if I can find it.

What is wrong with it? Leaks are usually just old O-rings, wear inside is different story.
Remember- these are 'power assist' pumps, at idle you will still need muscle compare to modern styles. My 202's won't help with turning unless it is nearly wide open, half throttle has little help from this sorta power steering affair.

What year is your 202? My MF35 Utility, which is functionally identical to the 202 is a '64 with the Cessna pump, older ones had a Barnes pump if I remember correctly. They are interchangeable.

At idle speed, I can turn my wheels with one finger no problem. The problem I DO have is that my fluid leaks past the end seal near the drive gear, so right now my pump is in pieces on the work bench to replace that seal.

I was told that rebuild kits are NLA for these pumps, but a more savvy guy at the dealer told me he could *probably* source one.

caryc- the best pricing I've seen for new pumps is on e-bay. They usually run around $430-$450.

Here is a link to one on flea bay.:

Mine has the same seal problem. If you do find a rebuild kit for the Cessna pump, please let me know.

I've seen those ones on Ebay but you have to be careful. One of them is a cheap price but if you read all the info on it, it says "relief valve not included".

That front seal is still available, at least for Cessna pumps- I got it no problem from my dealer. It was less than $10. Part number is:

834089M1 for Cessna pumps (taller, thinner reservoir)
1751651M1 for Barnes pumps. (short fat reservior)

My problem is that the main gear driven shaft has a small groove worn into it from the seal. I've been trying to source a Speedi-Sleeve or Redi-sleeve to fit it, but given that the shaft is only .42", that's proving to be difficult. I've got a few calls to make before I write it off and see about getting a new pump drive shaft, if it's available (and for how much?)

The pumps come apart pretty easily, hardest part for me was removing the drive gear. I chucked the gear up in a bench vice with wood jaws, clamped it down tight, and used a sharp chisel to break the nut. Used a puller to get the gear off the keyed shaft, popped the key out, then just four bolts on the back side of the pump and a light tap with a hammer and it pops apart.
