Starting my Massey Ferguson TO-35

Jump started and drove my Massey Ferguson TO-35 to where it now sits.

Tried to jump start again a few years later (my bad!) and heard the battery sizzling.

Got a new Battery and new battery leads, and now... Nothing (NUTHIN').

Sometimes it turns over, other times, NOT.

When it does turn, it just turns and turns, doesn't seem to get spark.

Any suggestions for me?

Also, any suggestions for me finding a diesel mechanic in/around Mineral/Ashford/Elbe/Eatonville WA?

Thanks in Advance,
Greg

Have you changed your filters and bled the air from the system? Start at the top and work your way back. Are you getting fuel to the injectors?

Should be a mobile mechanic around. Your near a lot of logging and construction. Those guys use mobile mechanics. Ask at the coffe shops or country store if they know any. If I was closer I would help you. I'm in Grants Pass, Or. I used to live in Onalaska, WA. Dick

If it diesel you aren't going to get any spark. I have a 1960 TO35 with a 23C diesel. Next question, does it have glow plugs and are they working? When cold, mine needs heat from the glow plugs to start. After it's warm it will start without heat.

My glow plugs and any 23C for that matter were series. If one burns out then none of them work. I have changed to parallel setup and I just rebuilt the motor this past winter. It still, needs heat to fire off the first go around.

Will have to check on glow plugs working.
I have a 'primer' for them, maybe it's not working?

I really need to find a mechanic, I'm just spinning my wheels here.

Great Idea looking for a mobile mechanic, I'll start checking out the coffee shops/diners (Morton may be my first stop).

Likely just a few small things, but being a 'computer' guy, vs. a mechanical guy, I have NO CLUE.

Thanks again!

Greg

That would be a Negative on changing filters, nor bleeding air from system.
Starting at the top would be a GREAT idea, if I had a clue, in fact, I don't know if when you say 'top', you mean 'top' of the engine compartment or some other term, that is how clueless I am.

I wouldn't have a CLUE how to check if fuel is getting to the injectors, nor how to bleed air.
I could change the filters without issue I'm sure.

Perhaps I'll pull filters and get some from 'Yesterday's Tractor' and go from there.

Greg

PS, anyone know a diesel mechanic? ;-)

(quoted from post at 16:32:56 02/25/17) Now would be a great time to pick up a manual :)

Amen to that! But that is like giving a GIS (Geographic Information Systems) Manual to a High School McDonalds worker. ;-)
