Every now and then when shifting from 1st gear to 2nd the shiftier can get locked up between gears. Is there some
kind of simple adjustment that can be made to stop this.

If it's like my old TO35 the shifter rails are worn
I have been told replacement is the only answer,

However, I have found something that has worked for me, gears have not locked up in years,

Train yourself to slowdown when shifting, no speed shifting,
However more importantly, slightly press down on the shifter lever as you shift,

It's worth a try, this downward pressure on the shifter lever must keep the worn shifter rod-slides and guides to match together enough that my old tractor transmission has not locked in years,

It's worth a shot, if you can train yourself to shift in this manner,

When was the last time you changed the transmission hyd oil, good oil will help lube these parts, oil that is half water is only going to make things worst,

I still use GL-1 mineral oil 90 weight in the transmission hyd system

Thank you for the info. I actually do shift slower now because i am self aware this might happen. never thought of the pushing down when shifting but i can see it helping . Thank you again

Hello,
Maxwell's advice of slow very deliberate gear changes will help immensely whilst keeping a downward pressure on the gear lever. A partial repair would be to replace the gear lever pivot pin. If the tractor has done a lot of work or been handled roughly in its gear changes the pivot pin is likely to be worn to an oval shape where it goes through the gear lever. There is likely to be corresponding wear in the GL as well. It is this extra movement that can cause the GL to disengage from the selectors. The pin can be punched out and follow it through with the punch and then insert a new pin. You should see a big difference.
