Perkins 4.318 Piston Installation

I am on home stretch with the rebuild of the perkins 4.318 in my MF285. Since a little time has passed, I am second guessing myself on the proper position of the pistons on the rods since the new pistons do not have the forward position marked. Since the pistons have the toroidal combustion chambers I have the pistons installed with the smaller measure of the offset on the same side as the rod numbers which will be installed towards the camshaft. I believe this is the way they came out. Hopefully someone can confirm this. Thank you.

Dieseltech,

I am a little confused as the manual says:

"Pistons should be assembled to connecting rods with number on side of rod and cap toward (camshaft) side of engine"

You have always been right on the money with other answers so I don't know what to make of this.

I double checked my Super 90, 285-1085 service books, and you are correct. The A4.300 and A4.318 are the only Perkins that put the rod numbers toward the cam. The 3.152, 4.203, 4.212, 4.236, 4.248, 6.354, and 6.372 all have the rod numbers away from the cam. I actually think I have my puller S90 rods in wrong because of all the other Perkins I'm used to working on. Must not matter though as it's still together at over 200 HP on the dyno. What DOES matter is the piston bowl offset, it must be TOWARD the injector as it's offset too.
