Hello all,
New tractor owner here. I just bought a massey ferguson 3165 with front bucket and backhoe. Advertised stuck in neutral. After reading several forums it appeared it may be stuck in a gear spot. I took off the cap looked around and everything moved freely. Started it up and released the clutch and to my surprise it nudged a little fwd and reverse when put in gear. No power to move more than a inch. I increased the throttle and nothing. Didnt appear to put a load on engine either. Hydraulics work fine. Thinking it is the clutch not engaging all the way or bad clutch. Should I adjust the clutch positioning on the side of the transmission to maybe make it engage further or does it sound like the clutch is most likely bad? Thanks for any advise.

Get a service manual and start with the clutch free play adjustment, you may get lucky. If free play is OK then the clutch may have issues, could be the friction surface is gone on one or both sides of the drive disc..

Sure sounds like clutch issue. Unless the clutch lever was adjusted in such a way that its holding the clutch open i don't think it will help. Worth a shot though before tearing everything apart. Is there any oil coming out of the drip hole underneith?
