MH I-162 Army - Help

Hello all,

I recently acquired a Massey Harris I-162 Army Corps of Engineering tractor (I believe this is one of nine that was sent to Lathrop, CA). She is definitely showing her age but actually still runs very well. I know that Massey Harris only made 25 or 26 of these models so trying to find a manual or even parts has been very difficult. I am trying to find what primary MH model this special contract model is based off of - maybe then I can find some parts that I need such as the exhaust manifold which is almost completely rusted through. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

the exhaust manifold is not the same as on a 30, it has a special casting for governor arm to pivot on. a manifold off of a 30 would work but the linkage would have to be changed. as for which model is based on is like mostly a 44 standard chassis, with several different variations. 30 engine, 30 hood, different radiator, 24v system stuff is hard to fine. I have 2 of them if you have any other ?,s

So it is a Frankenstein tractor - parts from the 30 and 44?

From what I see, the 24v system was removed and converted to a 12v - I am sure that hinders the value, but I am not too concerned about that. I want to just bring her back to as original as possible aside from some modern conveniences

Should I get a shop manual for both the 30 and 44 or would one be better than the other?

just get a book for 44, only thing that u really need from a 30 book is engine related. just yours still have magneto? transmission and rear are the same for 30/44 any way for the most part. do you have all the brass tags?
