Oil Pressure on my 150

notebook

I have a Massey Ferguson 150 with a diesel engine ever since I have owned it going on 5 years now the oil pressure gauge would peg out at max PSI so I finally got a new gauge and replaced it I still have the same problem the gauge pegs out at max pressure even at an idle. Any suggestions as to what is going on or what I should do. Also what is the best way to clean up the chrome on the number badge on the front? Thanks for any advice.

If this oil pressure problem happened a few years after you bought it, about the only thing I think it could be is the bypass valve in the oil pump somehow got stuck closed. I would put a 200, or 300 psi gauge on it to see where the oil pressure really is, you could have got a defective new gauge (it happens). Engine oil filters are not that strong so the excess pressure could make it burst open. More than likely the oil pan will need to come off to either fix, or replace the oil pump. Working oil pressure should be in the 30 - 60 psi range.
